![]() ![]() However, I do accept that maybe I have missed the point of the book as Allen emphasises the importance of mind set and the fact that people fail in quitting drinking because they build up the importance of drink in their lives and perceive quitting drinking to be harder than it actually is. In Britain, the social pressure to drink is immense, couple that with the fact that alcohol is one of the most physically addictive drugs around and surely no one can hold the assertion that you going completely dry is easy. It is wrong of him to say that quitting alcohol is easy- I know allowing people to think this is again probably crucial to the Easway method but I just can't help but think the reality is very different. ![]() Additionslly, I fundamentally disagree with some of Allen's assertions which he seems to hold as objective facts. It is as if the Easyway method is dangled as a carrot all the way through the book and when it is finally revealed I have to say it's hardly groundbreaking stuff. Also, the vast, vast majority of the book is spent on discussing the distinct lack of advantages to drinking, which is obviously important and maybe that's the secret of Easyway, but I did feel myself feeling slightly conned that such a small segment of the book is devoted to listing the strategies behind the Easyway method. However, after a while I did find myself understanding the points the author was making without the need for yet another analogy and I began to feel that the book could be significantly condensed if perhaps some of these analogies and rhetorical questions were omitted. He uses countless analogies and constant rhetorical questions, at first they have the effect of making the reader reflect deeply on the point at hand and some of the analogies, for example the one about the plant with the sweet yet poisonous nectar, are very apt indeed. To start with the negatives, I did find the author's writing style slightly laborious. I was slightly disappointed in some respects a yet pleasantly surprised in others. There are lots of very positive reviews on here which I read before reading the book so I was expecting a life changing read, perhaps naively. I really can't make my mind up on this book.
